saturday of lights
coming into a field of masses, walking into the old city streets of jerusalem, found myself held between the emotions of moments carried by people that only felt the urge of solitude by a day that only one can feel what it meant..

little shines from little stars in the #eyes of young stars that look up onto a future they don’t know of. . little shines from little smiles through a lens that walked to view souls living day in and day out under the stars of the #Jericho skies. . little hope to a future shining up ahead and little hope from a past that they never wished on bellow any stary night, where the basic essence of a #humanrights has been caught in the nets of nightmares. . these are the young stars that I wish upon. . these are the future from a nation that wish for a future from within each universal star. . . photography series: the far closeness . how far can one get close to the expression of their own momentary thought or feeling? and how far can the closeness of fear bring about the strength to create a change? . two questions faced each portrayed, and two questions that received a defence of an answer with a clear reality on the surprise by such a question. a surprise of not having no one ask on it for the simple purpose of care. . we identify on expressions from far distances we feel close to, relate to, yet fearsome to an extent by our human nature to express them out loud. . composing the expressions in elements of two simple questions was a learning process far closer to a reality to what I express in moments that I yet stand to say I can ever stop from learning. . . harshest environment cannot seep into the cracks of a soul in life.. . #empowerment is a self preservation state, for one soul and transmitted by human instinct to another and another and others. and that is her story and reality. with three children to raise, from which two are disabled, she created her own small business to survive the reality of no stability in income, or even economic or even health privileges in a small village up the northern West Bank region. drying naturally grown herbs, packing and selling to markets. “cannot see suffering no more, or even wait for no one’s assistance, i have myself and souls to feed and care for, so why should i not stride in pride for a better life?” she expressed. . the frame of the overall #life picture didn’t stop there, as this empowerment transcended to other women that went ahead in her small village to also work through the struggles via their own self made small home businesses. . learning life is one thing, learning to live is truly what is lived for. . #photography by nabil darwish, copyright 2019 all rights reserved. location: the #WestBank. . . #portrait, #streetportrait, #lensculture, #natgeocreative, endlessly trying to find answers to questions we don’t even know, and by age, such questioning evolves to levels of which one to another cannot even bare. . for moments that felt endless, the quietness of that curious stare from a child walking out the old city of #jerusalem, placed an inverse of that term curiosity, is she thinking the same or what is she gazing at? but that is it, that is the questioning which assured me by far for what she had in mind from the simplicity of the words she said was a reality far far from what we do called adults comprehend. she said: “can you see the stars in that?” . wish that i can #child I replied, but I’m sure you can. . #photography by nabil darwish, copyright 2019 all rights reserved. location: damascus gate, jerusalem. . . #portrait, #jerusalem, the scents and scenes & fascinations of colours always grabbed my attention, yet as a child I have always wondered off to the questions of why there are sights of some deprived of that so called “norm” in living a descent #life! grown up and still in the same fascinations of why we still live in a society that have grown apart to let down the some that are still left out. . the stagnation of economic levels in Jerusalem have yet to be seen to take out the many living under the #poverty line (which is by far in 2019 still increasing at 76% of the east jerusalem residence) to levels that would even trigger a dream of a child to be brought to any reality! . the right of life as humans is yet to be levelled equally. the right of dream to be held is far fetched from any frame to compose. . #photography by nabil darwish, copyright 2019 all rights reserved. location: east jerusalem. . . #portrait, #streetportrait, #lensculture, #natgeocreative, #natgeotravel, #instagood, political instability, & a looming fear of the unknown towards what ever is to come, to restless stride harder to grasp just another day wished upon to come in #peace. that being peace of mind and peace to simply live. yet same as all shades of infinite colours, the humans of jerusalem have never grown stronger in contrasts through their will to walk no matter what is faced. . we as humans are said to adapt by instinct to what we face, and evolve towards creating a better life. yet how does one instinctively do so when the the so called “better” is unknown? . #photography by nabil darwish,
